Win a copy of the POD version of Attack of the Lushites

Ok, folks, let's answer a question that puzzles me no end.  Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is a huge seller, movies such as Galaxy Quest won the Hugo. Fans love this stuff, yet when I mailed Lushites I was too often told they don't publish humour, or humour is a tough sell.  Why?

Why are science fiction and fantasy publishers reluctant to publish science fiction humour or satire?  Or are they? Have you read a funny science fiction or fantasy book you love?  Tell us about it.

Let's talk about the funny books of science fiction and fantasy, and enjoy a laugh together.

Make sure you show your e-mail address because the twentieth person who comments will receive a FREE  POD or e-book copy (winners choice) of Attack of the Lushites.

  1. I find humor difficult to read sometimes, at least to me, it is almost always better to watch. I have not watched nor read the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, but I adored Galaxy Quest. I have a friend of mine, Alexey Braguine, he has a website that he does short stories of humor with the main characters are hamster's. He has a gift for words and I just love the way he does things. When I can figure out where I have it saved, I'll come back and post the link to his website. McComas825@aol.com is my email address.

  2. I always loved Harry Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat. More recently, Connie Willis is a hoot! I actually think there's a lot of SF humor out there, though I think you're right, Russ, it doesn't always get the press it deserves. Congratulations on LUSHITES. I'm sure it will be a worthy addition to the (sub)genre.

  3. Humor, I've learned from personal experience, is always a hard sell. Maybe because people are very particular about what they find funny or amusing. If you like the style, you love it; if you don't, you hate it. No lukewarm involved. I love Sci-Fi, and in my opinion, the premise of your book is too funny. I can't wait to read it.

  4. Hi Russ, I love humour! That's one reason why I love Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series.

I love Rudy Rucker's 'Ware Tetralogy - it's brilliant AND very funny, too...

  6. All great comments! Thanks, Laurie, Ann, Steve, Kilt, and Karen.

I do remember the Stainless Steel Rat books. Try finding a copy of his Star Smashers of the Galaxy Rangers (1973), it's one of the funniest books I have ever read.
